Once there was an FM radio station that started a rock revolution. It thrived for a couple of decades, then slowly became a cog in a corporate music machine, which led to its demise. It had a renaissance of sorts in the 1990's, and some of its former glory was recaptured, but this was regrettably short-lived, and the corporate zombies took over again. And so, on November 19, 1999, they stopped playing music altogether, going to an "all talk" format, and the the station "Where Rock Lives" shut down. This song is dedicated to the memory of those days when the Rock was king.
Day The Rock Died is the first single from Duane's new EP "DMT and the Doppelgangers."

Lyrics

Well the Rock finally crumbled
After years cracked and strained
Everybody knew it was coming
But they just looked the other way
They all could still remember
When the Rock was king
There was no other station
That was worth anything

And there was silence in the countryside
The day the Rock died
And the ghosts of the honored dead
You could hear them cry
And Jimi and Janice and Marley and Lennon
They stood at Alison's side
And walked down Broadway at midnight
On the day the Rock died
The day the Rock died

I stood in Strawberry Fields
Looking up at the Dakota's lights
I could swear I could hear him playing
Whatever Gets You Through the Night
It was a time of great awakening
Unreasonable demands
We all tuned in and we decided
It was time to take a stand

And there was silence in the countryside
The day the Rock died
And the ghosts of the honored dead
You could hear them cry
And Morrison, Moon, and Ronnie and Stevie (Ray)
They stood at Alison's side
And let out a wail at midnight
On the day the Rock died
The day the Rock died

I gazed up into the night
At a patch of Rhythm & Blue
Saw places it hadn't reached yet, N-E-W
And when it does, you know there's gonna
Be a party out there
Because 102.7 mega-
Hertz is on the air

And there was silence in the countryside
The day the Rock died
And the ghosts of the honored dead
You can still hear them cry
And Harrison, Muni, and Palmer and Zevon
They'll be at Alison's side
And jammin' away at midnight
On the day the Rock died
The day the Rock died
The day the Rock died
Oh yeah
The day the Rock died
