Duane Michael Tucker has music and performing in his blood, being the son of Jazz harmonicist Cappy Barra, and big band singer Frances White. Spending time while growing up in both upstate New York's Catskill Mountains and the Piedmont area of North Carolina, Duane got a well rounded home grown musical education across the spectrum, from folk and country to rock and jazz. When he arrived in New York City in the late ‘80’s, the folk rock renaissance wave which produced the likes of Suzanne Vega, Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Dar Williams, Richard Shindell and Joan Osborne was in full swing. He hooked up with accredited songwriter Judith Zweiman, drummer/ percussionist Mark McColl, and bassist/multi-instrumentalist Tom Duval, and they formed a group called Judith Zweiman And The Answers. Their song "Heart On Ice" was perfomed by Shawn Colvin and Lucy Kaplansky at the Fast Folk show at the Bottom Line in 1986, which prompted a glowing review in the NY Times, and the recording was enshrined in the Smithsonian Folkways Collection. They played the clubs in and around the New York Metro area, performing each others’ songs and mixing in covers, and developing a loyal following - especially at their regular Sunday night gig, at Columbia U's popular night spot Augie's, where the cops would often show up at 3 A.M. to break up a bit too spirited sing-along rendition of "American Pie." They played opening slots for Tom Paxton, Buffy St. Marie, The Fabulous Rhinestones, Bobby Weir's Kingfish, and Tom Chapin, to name a few. Duane's first solo album, "Moonlight Row” was first released in 2002. It is available on Pandora, CD Baby, iTunes and other services. The title song is regularly performed by popular folk rock trio Gathering Time, and they recorded it for their album, “When One Door Closes." The Judith Zweiman And The Answers album, which was out of print for years, has been re-released on CD and will soon be available through this Web site. Duane's second solo album, "Old, New And Blue" is also available through digital music services, and soon on this site.
